The best tip of all is the fish shop, Aberdeen Sea Products, on Toulmin Street, more or less beside Charles Dickens school (off Great Suffolk Street). They supply restaurants but will also sell to the public.

They are therefore only open until 10.30/11 in the mornings Monday to Friday and about 9am on a Saturday. The fish is incredibly fresh and much cheaper than at Borough Market.
