Great Suffolk Street Shops See also Traffic Issues
A number of traders in Great Suffolk Street have opposed the traffic changes described opposite, claiming that they have experienced a 20% downturn in trade since the gate in Trinity Street was introduced. However, the Mayor's Congestion Charging has resulted in a 20è30% reduction in traffic, so removing the gate would now be of no benefit to trade.

We sympathise with our local traders and encourage local residents to use the shops and restaurants in our area. In your daily/weekly routine do you ever:

  • buy a newspaper;
  • have your hair done;
  • need some flowers;
  • want a key cut;
  • fancy a cup of tea, a full English breakfast or fish and chips;
  • purchase your daily five portions of fruit and vegetables;
  • chat with a butcher about the best value meat;
  • run out of milk, sugar or alcohol;
  • have a flutter with a bookie;
  • buy a lottery ticket;
  • get your clothes cleaned;
  • require the staff of life è bread;
  • or die.

If so, you can do them all in the shops in Great Suffolk Street. We support the council's decision to invest in measures which will make Great Suffolk Street more shopper- and pedestrian-friendly. Let°s help the local shopkeepers to make a good living, from LOCAL RESIDENTS è there are a lot of us now.
