Swan Street

Swan Street was also originally built in the same style at the same time as Trinity Church Square and Cole Street. Both sides, north and south of Trinity Street, contained small houses or shops. Apart from the Trinity Arms (now converted into flats at 29 Swan Street), none of the original buildings remain. On the east side of the street, Gloucester Court, the shop at 33 Swan Street and 21–27 Swan Street were all built in the early 1960s - there was originally a school on the site of 21–27 Swan Street. On the southwest side of the street, the Southwark Court of Requests was built in 1824. The original building was replaced in the 1930s and was at times a county court and a Crown Court annexe. The Mason’s Arms pub was on the west corner of Swan Street and Harper Road until the 1960s. That side of the street was then replaced with a new building used first as a postal sorting office and then a self-storage business. This and the Crown court annexe were both demolished in 2017 to make way for the present Trilogy development.
